Shortly after sunrise, a monk from the nearby Buddhist temple will go on his daily walk with his alms bowl. We request to give him food and other necessities before he walks past by the resort. In the Western world, Buddhist monks are often referred to as beggar monks, but this is far from the truth. The monk on the contrary offers us the mind beneficial opportunity of giving.
Feel free to join – you don’t need to believe in the Buddhist belief. The good feeling will stay with you for the rest of the day.
We will sound the “Gong” in the hall by the entrance 15 minutes before we expect the monk or monks to be approaching. If you care to join, please put on some clothes that cover your body – our wrap-around kimono from your room is decent enough – and come down and join the ceremony on the street in front of the resort.
